Checked out an exhibit on images of women in space today. Not surprised to see our illustrious Uhura prominently featured in it. ✨

Not for nothing, but K’Ehleyr’s hair jewelry is just a tad reminiscent of L’Rell’s “You may call me Mother” look. I like it.

I know this is like being a gift horse given who we already know is going to make an appearance on the Picard show, but could we have Q show up at some point? I would love that.

Ok, now I'm *really* emotional. Our first picture of Picard in 17 years. Wow. This is really happening! https://arstechnica.com/gaming/2019/05/cbs-shows-the-first-new-image-of-patrick-stewart-as-picard-in-17-years/

At the theater for “What We Left Behind,” the new Deep Space Nine documentary. I may have smuggled some chocolate into the theater. Already feeling a little nostalgic. DS9 was and is my favorite Trek series. I feel lucky that I got to see it while it was originally on the air. ✨

Relaxing with one of my favorite history podcasts tonight (highly recommend it if you’re into Japanese history, btw). Here I am listening to the story of Godzilla when out of the blue, our intrepid host offers the following: “Having grown up watching Star Trek, I call this the Klingon Effect. And before you ask, Deep Space Nine is the best series, Sisko is the best captain, though Jean-Luc Picard is a close second.” 😂

@quark Sure. I think Drastic Measures is my favorite so far (it was a real page-turner), but they were all good. Desperate Hours might be worth a look following Season 2 since it focuses on Burnham and Spock's relationship. @Omega_Molecule The barista at the coffee shop where I’m playing much-needed hooky this afternoon saw my Discovery novel while I was paying for my tea. “How’s that show?” he asked, claiming that he’s not really a Trek fan so much as a Star Wars fan. But then he brought up the Kirk vs. Picard debate, so I’m not entirely convinced he’s not a Trekkie to at least a certain degree. 😉 Of course I sung Disco’s praises and recommended it.

Treated myself to this today. Been wanting to read this Disco novel since it came out, but my (otherwise awesome) local library stopped carrying new Trek books because they’re part of a series (I know: 🤔). So I’m going to enjoy reading this book and then donate it to the library. That way, we can keep the party going. 🤓🖖📘✨

    1. The Incredible, Intoxicating Potential of Star Trek: Discovery's Third Season
      from io9
Last week, Star Trek: Discovery’s second season finale delivered more explosions than a full compliment of photon torpedoes ever could. But with them, it also delivered one of the biggest status quo shifts a Star Trek show has ever contemplated—and it wasn’t just shocking, it brought with it some truly fascinating promise.

@Omega_Molecule This reminds me of how, when I watched The Best of Both Worlds as a special event in a movie theater a few ago, they showed a couple of brief interviews with the folks involved in the show at that time. One of the writers said a fan came up to him yelling about The Best of Both Worlds, saying, “You ruined my summer!” It was pretty funny the way he recounted it. I have a feeling we’re in for a long summer this time too 🙃

I’m hearing a lot of folks on the podcasts I listen to speculate that the Disco writers are setting us up for a Best of Both Worlds-style finale that leaves us hanging until next season. At first I thought that was a little too pat what with the parallels between Control and the Borg. The more I think about it, though, I think they’re probably right. I really like the idea of rocketing 950-1,000 years into the future. What will that even look like?

So I saw Captain Marvel last night. Pretty good! I couldn't help but notice that Supreme Intelligence seems a bit like Control from Section 31, which my favorite podcast recently theorized may have a link to that rogue squid probe from the future. Not surprising that AI is playing a prominent role in our sci-fi right now. We've got a lot of anxieties about it and some very important questions to work out as a society.

Could there be a relationship between the Golden Mean and the hero's journey in storytelling? This is pretty wild: https://orcalit.com/2019/03/01/orca-blog-for-march-2019-the-mathematics-of-writing/

My latest Trek loot from the library. I never read Trek novels back when VOY and DS9 were airing, probably because I was up to my eyeballs in reading assignments for classes. Looking forward to digging into this VOY novel since I know the characters so well. Also curious to learn more about Kirsten Beyer since I understand she’s overseeing the DISCO novels.

Are they ever going to discuss Sybok? I keep wondering about that now that we’re seeing all these scenes at Sarek and Amanda’s home. Even if Sybok’s not there, it’s becoming a question mark that he’s not even mentioned in passing. I’ve thought off and on that because Sybok exists, it’s pretty much fair game for them to write Burnham in after the fact as well.

Excited for the Season 2 premiere of Discovery tonight. Captain Pike! Spock! Number One! (And can I just say how cool it is that we have an incoming captain who is a Trek fan himself?) Might just queue up the final episode of Season 1 to refresh everything in my mind before showtime. 📺🍿🤓🖖

Just a molecule hanging around the galaxy. Also considered the most powerful substance known to exist or, as the Borg call me, perfection. Howdy. #startrek
